Brown Insurance provides Personal Umbrella policies that provide an additional layer of personal liability coverage.  Personal Umbrella Insurance does not provide basic home, auto, boat, or RV coverage. After the limits to the primary policies are exhausted, this type of insurances steps in to become the next layer of coverage. Personal Umbrella Insurance will also step in to allow for repayment of court costs without needing to sell your assets to meet these obligations.

Here’s an example of how an umbrella policy might work:
Let’s say your car is insured for personal liability with limits of $250,000 per person. You pull into an intersection, strike another vehicle and severely injure the other driver. This person sues you and a judgment against you totals $800,000. Your auto policy will pay the first $250,000 but an umbrella policy would respond for the next $550,000. In addition, an umbrella policy often insures against some types of losses for which there is no coverage in the underlying insurance policy. Examples of such losses include liable, slander and defamation of character.

Why purchase a personal umbrella?

Personal Umbrella coverage provides higher amounts of liability insurance coverage for an affordable premium.  It protects your assets when you need it the most and provides peace of mind. By adding an Umbrella, one can maximize premium discounts when written with your auto and/or homeowners’ coverage.
